A soft wash does the opposite. A cleaning solution goes on at low pressure, it sits long enough to kill what is growing, then the whole surface gets rinsed. The house comes out one even color instead of a patchwork of clean stripes, and it stays that way considerably longer.

Two different jobs that people ask for as one. Clearing the trough is about function: leaves and shingle grit dam up the downspouts, water backs up over the edge, and you get overflow lines on the siding and pooling at the foundation. Brightening is about looks: those vertical black streaks on the gutter face are not dirt you can rinse off, they need a cleaner worked onto them. We do both while we are already up there for the house wash, which is why it costs less as part of the same visit than it would on its own.

- Will a soft wash strip my paint or damage the siding?
- No. That risk comes from high pressure, and a soft wash does not use it. The pressure at the surface is closer to a garden hose than a pressure washer. The cleaning is done by the solution, not by force.
- How long before the algae comes back?
- Most houses go two to three years before the north side starts to turn again, depending on how much shade and moisture that wall gets. A wash that only knocks the color off without killing the growth will come back within a season, which is the usual reason people think house washing does not last.
- Do you wash the gutters too?
- Yes, and it is worth doing at the same time. Clearing the trough and brightening the face both happen off the same ladder, so bundling them costs less than booking gutters separately later.
